The Beginning of Arcon Equipment, Inc.

Arcon Equipment Inc. was started in 1967 in Cleveland, Ohio by William Shumay. Using experience gained in the rebuilding and re-engineering of DC powered mining equipment, and as field engineer and salesman for Edison Storage Battery and Exide battery, he went on to grow his own company on quality and reliability.

Company Growth

Arcon moved to Walton Hills, Ohio in 1973. In 1989, Bill retired and Don Shumay took over operation of the company, having worked beside his father for many years. Today Don has over 30 years of battery and charger experience. As a second generation company, the people at Arcon Equipment are dedicated to maintaining Arcon’s good reputation as an important part of our family and company history.

Publication

Arcon has benefited from the writing of William C. Shumay Jr. , whose series of articles for Arcon Equipment on industrial battery and charger technology have been published in the Material Handling Wholesaler and used in training programs for material handling professionals. William C. Shumay's lengthy career as a science/technology writer includes employment with Penton Publishing, The Monsanto Corporation Mound Facility, and the American Society for Metals.
